Get to Know Amanda Shyer, LAPC

How did I get into this career?

During my first year of college, I took my first psychology class and was hooked. The more psychology classes I took, the more I loved the major and field of study. Along with the knowledge I was learning, I was applying it to what was happening in my life. Throughout my life, I’ve had friends and family who have struggled with their mental health. This led me to know that mental health and counseling were the career path I wanted to pursue.

What is my favorite thing about counseling?

My favorite thing about counseling is being able to help others grow into the person they want to be. I’ve always been someone who wanted to help others. Seeing my clients improve their wellness and mental health is such a blessing to be a part of.

What do I like to do when I’m not at Atlanta Wellness Collective?

I enjoy spending time outdoors — going on walks and soaking up what nature has to offer. I also love to see the Braves and cheer them on. When the weather is droopy, I spend time reading or doing a jigsaw puzzle.

What do I hope for my clients?

All client’s goals are different because nobody has the same story. Everyone reacts differently to different situations, and each client’s needs are unique. Ultimately, I hope that my clients are able to find peace, healing, and wellness through the counseling journey.
